Period ⅞ Should you play pokemon go? A couple months ago, a new app called Pokemon Go was released. It rose to popularity very quickly and soon it became the most downloaded and played app. Sure enough it could be a very fun game, but is it even safe? It can lead you to very dangerous areas and, gated off communities, and it requires so much personal data, what would they use it for? This app may even encourage you to do things but not in a good way. So if you were to play this game you would most likely notice that it is very distracting, especially since we’re not paying attention it can lead you to somewhere dangerous. Is this game even worth the play? To start off, let’s say that you’re trying to catch a Pokemon but it’s in a place that you wouldn’t want to go to, or even think about going to. The player would get hurt searching in unsafe areas, I wouldn’t go there. In article A, the author states, “The game ‘could be leading people into areas where they don’t belong’ such as construction sites or shuttered storefronts.” Imagine having to go to these places, going to a construction site would be completely dangerous. You could fall into a very deep hole. Or going to a run down place, that would be considered trespassing, and something can fall on you. People would try to catch Pokemon that are in restricted areas, and I don’t think that those are the smartest ideas. As stated on document A, “The company declined to provide a list of fenced off areas or discuss how it selects those spots.” Most areas are fenced off for a reason, and most areas are just private properties. (Trespassing) Pokemon go could cause players a lot of trouble. Furthermore, with all that data that it requires, most of it is very personal and they wouldn’t even need it. Would you trust it? This app could try to steal information for business use, and not the good type of business. On document B, the author states “Pokemon Go uses your phone’s location, your Ip address, and the web page you most recently visited before playing all connected with your real name and account information.” Before installing this app, take a look at privacy policy. It requires things that might not even know what they are, but with the things that it needs it might steal your very personal information. If you were to be hacked, most of your information won’t be given back. Since you won’t what all of this is, you may think that’s okay. On article B, the author states, “companies want to collect as much information as possible about their customers so they can prepare for future business.” Most players don’t understand that the things they are giving away to this game is so personal. It would be so unusual if they needed to know what I had used before going to the app. So therefore I honestly wouldn’t play this game. Moreover, I think Pokemon Go can actually lead you into having injuries. Yes, there is a chance that it will lead you to danger, or being hospitalized. As stated on document D, “ News reports say that say that users have tripped, fallen into a lake, crashed a car, and sustained any other injuries while playing.” People can drown in lakes, and die in car accidents, the amount of money you need to have things repaired and having to pay for injuries costs a lot. Others in the community may easily feel disrespected simply because these players are trying to catch a Pokemon. On document D the author states In their quest to capture creatures, players are failing to respect their surroundings.” PLayers will be near the homes of others and people deserve their own privacy. They wouldn’t want a stranger or a child standing in front of their house, that’s not a good idea. This game can get you more exercise but it sure isn’t safe. To conclude, players should decide not to play Pokemon Go, because all of these dangers and all the things it might cost you. If it uses your information for things other than the game, then what’s the point of installing this game? It has many benefits but being hacked or falling into a lake sure isn’t one of them. Therefore, in my opinion, I wouldn’t download Pokemon Go, it just wouldn’t be safe. My score for this essay was a 4 and a 4.

Should Schools Ban Junk Food?
Childhood obesity is a huge problem in America. It is caused by excessive body fat, and lack of exercise or healthy eating. Some schools are choosing whether or not to stop selling junk food in the cafeterias because of this problem. Some schools have already decided to ban any unhealthy snacks. Based on an Article (Resource A), and an infographic (Resource C), I think most schools should stop selling junk food. There are so many health crises caused by just being overweight. This problem also comes with risks and diseases, and you would have to pay a lot of money to help yourself be in shape and to have health care. I think that For instance, there are many health crises in the world that come with being in extremely bad shape. It comes with the eating habits that you develope. In order to prevent this, it is better to just make healthy choices for yourself. As stated in Source A, “Obesity is a health epidemic across our country and we he a responsibility as a government and society to do all we can to good nutrition and healthy eating to reverse this eating trend.” Being able to have good health comes with a good eating habit. Having the right nutrition when dealing with obesity will really help mend the situation. Many people in America that deal with this problem have a chance that they will die. In source A, the author states, “Nearly 300,000 people day each year from complications associated with being obese or overweight.” Due to these problems many will suffer with these complications, or worse. Therefore, schools not sell junk food because of these very intriguing predicaments that happen with children. In addition, there are many health risks and health risks that are involved with this issue. For instance when the author states, “70% of children have at least one risk factor for heart disease.” At a young age heart diseases are not very healthy for you. Having these risks as a child, can give you a high chance of actually having that disease the future. Later in life it can lead to bigger problems such as death. On document C the author states, “Today’s children will be the first generation since the great depression projected to have a shorter lifespan than their parents.” This can cause a family impact with them having to deal with a loss due to the fact that he/she did not choose to eat healthy. To prevent these problems eating habits have to be fixed and exercising daily will help stop the problem and prevent it from happening again. So, schools should rethink having to sell sweets at their schools. Furthermore, the costs to fix this problem is really costing so much money. It is so expensive having to pay for children to be cured. Stated on source C, “By 2018 the U.S. will spend 344 billion dollars on obesity-related health care costs, the cost of 13,835,959.9 years of college.” If the children were to decide to eat healthier, the state wouldn’t have to pay for the children. If children don’t have any snacks at home they will most likely decide to eat the junk food from school. Having to be even just treated, is so expensive as stated on source C, “ Children treated for obesity are 300% more expensive for our health care system than kids of a healthy weight.” Paying more for the health care would really lower your income and drain money. If children were to stay healthy, you wouldn’t run out of money quickly and save money. Therefore, yes, schools should stop selling junk food to the students because of all these reasons. I don’t think that people want to die or have heart diseases at a young age. And parents wouldn’t want to pay a lot more to have their children lose weight. Really think about how many people suffer from this and don’t want to suffer from this disease. In the image above, the person is thinking about the image, which can be anything.
-In this case epistemology is explained because the person can be thinking about the irrefutable truth. Our minds may trick us, but the thing is, we can not trust our bodies to tell us the truth; the only thing we trust is our minds. Thinking does not need any requirement of a place or any type of material. What we think is affected by autority, tradition, and our culture. Thinking, however, is an irrefutable truth and proves our existence. The image that we have created represents music. The blank spot in the middle represents the clarity of music. The rest of the colors represent the different tones of music. To the left, there is a blue section. It represents the key of the clarinet, and the the top left hand corner, it represents the bass clarinet. The brigth colors are for happy music, and the dull colors are for more sad and emotional music that has a meaning behind it.
What does "I think, therefore I am" mean now that you have read Descartes' writings and explored his philisophical viewpoints in class?
"I think, therefore I am", is a statement that was made by Rene Descartes who was a French Pholisopher who was questioning/doubting his existence. He has doubted everything until it was proven correct. "I Think, Therefore I am", means that you can not doubt that something or someone exists. If you have ever wondered about something like " Am I dreaming, do I really exist?" means that you really do exist, your not dreaming, you are thinking. Thinking does not need a place or any material. He states that sometimes we can not trust our bodies only our minds, but sometime our minds may lie to us. Growth vs. Fixed
The research of Carol Dweck, a psychology research professor, has contributed over time to schools, sports, academics, successes, as well as non-successes. In Dweck’s research we learn how a growth mindset will take you farther in life than a fixed mindset. Further on, we learn specifically how the research of Carol had a contribution towards the world. According to Dweck, a fixed mindset is when they believe that they are capable of doing so much that they stop there. That is their comfort zone, so they won’t take any risks because of their fear of making any misconceptions or of feeling defeated by their own failure. Based on the research of Dweck, we can infer that fixed mindsets have a goal for themselves and stop once they reach that target. Likewise, if there are obstacles in the way of their ambition they will stop there as a result of them not accepting a challenge. Despite having a fixed mindset, a person over time can shape into a growth mindset. In an article based off of Carol’s analysis, it declares that she contributed her research into helping a British soccer team on reaching their full potential. The team was focused on a fixed mindset. They felt that they didn't need to practice, and that they were fine without it because they were that good, according to Dweck. Over time, however, the soccer team reached their full potential and their performance was increased a lot more then when they had a fixed mindset. A growth mindset, according to Dweck, contributes fuel when the person is setback by a mistake. For instance, in an article it shows how Dweck and her research group went to an elementary school to experiment on kids who had been labeled as “helpless”. Here is a quote from the article that shows what they did, “Through a series of exercises, the experimenters trained half the students to chalk up their errors to insufficient effort, and encouraged them to keep going. Those children learned to persist in the face of failure—and to succeed.” This indicates how fuel was contributed in order to face those setbacks. According to the article entitled “The Effort Effect”, psychology professor Lee Ross presented the attribution theory which exercises with the judgement of people in the causes of the events and what type of behavior was reacted toward the events. Like the experiment on the kindergarteners, for example. The control group, the group that didn’t give any encouragement to the students, over time showed no improvement because of the way they reacted to the attribution. The other group, however, didn’t give up in the face of failure and accepted those challenges. Over time, they were able to solve the challenges and continue on with the next math problem. Dweck contributed her findings with the kindergarteners and discovered that they should have the kids “think out loud”, according to the article. It also demonstrated how the growth mindset students did not see their failure as failure, they saw it as “ This way won't work to solve this problem, I better try another way.”, that was basically how they had their mindset. Carol Diener explains that failure isn’t failure that it is just labeled that way and failure isn't failure especially for growth mindset people. In conclusion, fixed mindsets and growth mindsets are important because they help to encourage us to do better things and reach our full potential, as a result makes us better people. In our visual you may see water and trash floating or bunched up in the water with people throwing things in the water. The water represents the flow of you, your intelligence and what you are capable of doing. The trash represents failures and goals that you created. And as you make more mistakes and goals, you create more trash. The people represent people that discourage and tell you that you are not capable of doing anything. The trash that they are going to throw into the water is all of their negativity towards you and their discouragement. On the growth mindset drawing, you see it making a path to guide itself out of the trash which means that you don’t let the trash get in the way of your flow. On the fixed mindset drawing, you see the water is trapped and unable to get through the trash because it lets the trash get in the way of their flow. By: Kennya Magana, Wendy Manriquez, Noemi Torres What does this qoute mean to me? "I think. therefore I am." is a quote that was said by, Rene Descartes. What I think he means by this quote is because he has the ability to think therefore, he knows he exists. We are people, living, breathing, sleeping, people wo know what we are doing, because we think. Why I like this Quote? It is very true because most of us think, and we think about ourselves in a way where we are just thinking upon how we look or how we act eithier just acting as ourselves or our behaivior around others. So we think about ourselves, therefore we are.
